Natural
resources and environmental resources are a key part
the quality of life enjoyed by residents of any town.
Creating and maintaining a Natural Resource Inventory
of Branford is one of the responsibilities of the Conservation
and Environment Commission. In 2002, Dr. Richard Orson,
an environmental scientist and Branford resident, developed
Branford's first Natural Resources Inventory for the
Conservation & Environment Commission. The Inventory
describes Branford's physical features, water resources,
and biological communities, as well as patterns of land
use, including open space and recreation, and sites
and practices that pose environmental problems. The
Inventory contains 17 maps and 13 lists or tables, providing
Branford's citizens with a snapshot of their town's
natural resources.
