Branford is a shoreline town with a total area of 28.0 square miles (land area 22.0 square miles), and a population of 29,166. Public transportation is provided by Dattco and Connecticut Transit buses from New Haven and the Shoreline East commuter rail service. The town benefits from its beautiful natural coast line and from considerable inland open space areas, like the Queach parcel purchased by the Town in 2006. In addition, the town contains significant structures that survive from its colonial past. These factors combine to present a challenge to those who would preserve the Town's natural beauty and historical resources while, at the same time, allowing the Town to prosper through economic development. We believe that appropriate development and preservation of natural and historical resources can occur together and allow future generation of Branford citizens to enjoy the beautiful Town we enjoy today.
